Sample Itinerary
Welcome to Mexico! On arrival, you’ll be met by an SA Representative who will greet you and transfer with you to your La Paz hotel for a relaxing evening at leisure.
Today you’ll set out in search for one of the ocean’s most gentle giants, the whale shark (the largest fish on the planet!), which return yearly to the coast just off of La Paz. You’ll set out by boat into the Bay of La Paz, for San Rafaelito, a small outcropping of rock teeming with marine life (including sea lions!), where you’ll get your first snorkel opportunity alongside your naturalist guide. Next stop takes you to Balendra Bay, a protected area home to pristine beaches, mangroves and stunning scenery, great for trekking and snorkel. Final stop takes you to the whale shark observation zone, an area highly protected by local agencies with limited boat activity, so you may have to wait your turn for your first encounter with these gentle giants!
After breakfast, you’ll be transferred to the dock to board a boat journey out into the Bay of La Paz with your guide. After nearly 1.5hrs with excellent views along the way, you’ll arrive to a private luxury tented camp site in one of the most beautiful nature reserves – Espiritu Santo Island in the Sea of Cortez. Your site is made up of 8 luxury private tents, as well as a dining area, two sun showers and two compost toilet cabañas. Such a remote area will allow you to truly immerse yourself in Baja Sur’s pristine wilderness while still reaping luxury comforts with beach views, a comfortable bed and daily chef-prepared meals with happy hour. In the afternoon, take advantage of your choice of activity, from snorkeling with sea lions off the coast, kayaking and paddle boarding in the Sea of Cortez.
Espiritu Santo National Park in the Sea of Cortez is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is one of the best marine life viewing destinations in the world. Whales, dolphins, sea turtles, manta rays and plenty of beautiful tropical fish call the surrounding waters home, while a terrific range of bird species including Blue-footed Boobies, Reddish Egrets, Great Blue Herons and Yellow-footed Gulls frequent the island’s skies and shores. The island itself is stunning, with magnificent towering cliffs, spectacular sandy bays, amazing lava rock formations, and rock art left by the now-extinct Guaycura and Pericu Indians. It’s a remarkable place to explore, and you can spend the day as you wish, kayaking, snorkeling, hiking, swimming with sea lions, paddle boarding and even bird watching. There’s even cave art, hidden lagoons and deserted beaches nearby!
Today you’ll journey back to La Paz via the same boat ride you came in on. From La Paz you’ll transfer overland to the southern tip of Baja California, San Jose del Cabo, or more popularly referred to as Los Cabos, where you’ll spend your final days soaking up some sun.
