After breakfast, you’ll be met by your private expert guide and explore some of the city’s most interesting highlights together; walk the cobblestoned streets of La Candelaria, peruse the colorful Paloquemano Market (one of the largest in country!), observe an impressive exhibition at one of the country’s most prestigious museums (ie. Gold or Botero Museum), and travel to the top of Monserrate Hill for an exceptional panoramic city view.
With your private guide, journey 30 miles north of the city to tour the impressive Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira, an underground church built within the tunnels of a salt mine 200meters underground. The chapels and altars are all carved directly into solid rock – no wonder it’s considered one of the most notable achievements of Colombian architecture!
You’ll be transferred to the airport for your flight to Medellin, a city that enjoys spring-like weather year round! On arrival, you’ll be met by your private guide and set off on an exploration of the city’s prime highlights such as the Botero Plaza, Santo Domingo, Parque Berrio and the open-air escalators of comuna 13. You’ll learn about the city’s fascinating history, which was once so closely linked to Pablo Escobar, and over the years has transformed from one of the most dangerous cities in the world into a modern urban center welcoming visitors.
Today you’ll visit the colorful village of Guatape, enjoy a scenic drive thru the highlands, as well as climb the Penol Boulder for spectacular views of surrounding lakes and mountains; measuring 200 meters high, this monolith can be climbed via a 740-step staircase!
When necessary, you’ll be transferred to the airport to board your flight to the Caribbean! Welcome to Cartagena de Indias, a colorful, colonial coastal town filled with vibrant culture, stunning views and delicious cuisine! On arrival, you’ll be transferred to your hotel in the colonial quarters where you’ll spend an evening at leisure.
With your expert guide, peruse the cobblestoned lined streets of the Old Town of Cartagena, a UNESCO World Heritage Site which was once an important trade center for South America in the 16th century – there’s no better way to get to know a city than by foot! During your explorations, your guide will also highlight some of the finer street foods of the city, noting Cartagena is also well known for their rich culinary delights!
After breakfast, take a deeper dive into Cartagena’s past by exploring the city’s most fascinating historical buildings, starting with the 17th century convents, Convento de la Popa and Iglesia y Convento San Pedro de Claver as well as the San Felipe Castle. Please bear in mind there are dress codes for the different historic buildings, which your guide will prepare you for in advance.
When necessary, you’ll be transferred to the airport where you’ll board your flight home and say farewell to Colombia.
