From stunning temples and abundant landscapes to vibrant cities and pristine beaches, Thailand has something for every traveler. One of the key factors to consider when planning your visit to Thailand is the weather. While its friendly people ensure it’s known as the ‘Land of Smiles’, the climate can vary widely from region to region.

If you're planning a trip to Southeast Asia, Thailand must be at the top of your list. Read on to find out when the best time is to visit each part of this country.

Northern Thailand

Doi Inthanon National Park is a popular site in Chiang Mai, famous for its waterfalls, delightful trails, remote villages, and gorgeous viewpoints.

Home to the cultural gems of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, the North offers a cooler and more temperate climate compared to other regions. During the cooler, dry season, running from November to February, temperatures range from 50°F to 80°F, providing a pleasant and comfortable experience for explorers of the region’s breathtaking temples, vibrant markets, and hill tribe villages.

The popular Yi Peng Lantern Festival in November illuminates the night sky with thousands of floating lanterns, creating a mesmerizing spectacle.

Central Thailand

Central Thailand experiences a tropical savanna climate. Plan your trip – ideally – during the cool and dry season, which spans from November to February. Temperatures during this time range from 70°F to 90°F, making it ideal for sightseeing, temple hopping, and enjoying the vibrant street food scene that Bangkok is renowned for.

Not to be missed is the bustling capital city of Bangkok and the historical city of Ayutthaya. If you’re lucky, you might even catch the Songkran Festival in April, a thrilling water festival where locals and tourists engage in friendly water fights to celebrate the Thai New Year. With temperatures reaching between 85°F to 100°F during the warmer months between March and May, it’s well worth taking note of the weather beforehand.

Southern Thailand

Koh Samui is truly a dream!

Southern Thailand is famous for its picturesque beaches, crystal-clear waters, and magnificent islands. The region experiences a tropical monsoon climate, and the best time to visit depends on which coast you plan to explore. The Andaman Sea coast, including Phuket and Krabi, is best visited between November and April when temperatures range from 75°F to 90°F and rainfall is minimal.

On the Gulf of Thailand coast, which includes popular destinations like Koh Samui, the best time to visit is from February to October, with temperatures ranging from 80°F to 95°F. Be sure to check out the Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan, a legendary beach party that attracts revelers from around the world.

Eastern Thailand

Pattaya is known for its lively nightlife, while Koh Chang boasts pristine beaches and lush rainforests, making both destinations perfect for adventure seekers and beach lovers alike.

No matter which region you choose to explore in Thailand, you’ll find a rich tapestry of culture, breathtaking natural beauty, and warm hospitality.
