HOW IT WORKS
- Stay in an upscale Beverly Hills hotel, and get the opportunity to explore this iconic ’hood on your own, shopping, dining and dancing like a local.
- Enjoy a full-day docent-led tour of LA’s many beaches. Ride bikes down the Santa Monica boardwalk to Venice Beach and learn to surf at Malibu.
- Experience Hollywood your way, with guided visits to the Avenue of the Stars, Grauman’s Chinese Theater and – if you’re up for it – some late-night karaoke in Koreatown.
- Embark upon a four-night, all inclusive cruise to the Channel Islands National Park – also known as California’s Galapagos, thanks to its 145 endemic species.
- Explore the barren rock outcropping that is East Anacapa Island, hiking to a hundred-year-old lighthouse and exploring Arch Rock in a Zodiac.
- Kayak, hike and swim to your heart’s content on idyllic Santa Rosa Island, where you’ll also explore a one-of-a-kind pine grove.
- Get to know quirky Santa Catalina Island, the one-time haunt of smugglers and gold-diggers that was transformed into a resort destination by chewing gum tycoon William Wrigley, Jr. in the 1920s.
Welcome to California! Today is a transit day, and after your plane glides in over the Pacific Ocean, you will take a shuttle to claim your rental car and take a drive through Los Angeles to the famous Beverly Hills. Spend the afternoon exploring your new ’hood, or just relax in your iconic Los Angeles hotel. After dinner you can either rest up ahead of the adventure to come or hit the town to experience some of LA’s famous nightlife.
Take this day to enjoy a guided exploration of Los Angeles’ beaches. Our local insiders will put you on the inside track to living like an Angeleno: Ride bikes down the Santa Monica boardwalk to eclectic Venice Beach, cruise the Pacific Coast Highway to relax on the white sand beaches of Malibu, or learn to surf in the Pacific Ocean! Finish your day with a visit to one of Los Angeles’ world-class restaurants, then head back to your hotel to relax or out for a night on the town.
Today is the day you walk among the stars! Enjoy a tour of Hollywood (watched over by the famous sign) including a visit to the Avenue of the Stars, and a stop at Grauman’s Chinese Theater. Our tour allows you to see Tinseltown your way! Cap off the day with an invigorating urban hike through Griffith Park for a unique viewing perspective of that most famous of hillside signs.
This morning you’re free to explore LA on your own (with beaches, bars and shops galore, there’s something for everyone) before heading to the Port of Los Angeles to board your all-inclusive cruise to the Channel Islands National Park! A sunset departure kicks off your adventure to the pristine island chain – while you’re enjoying dinner your ship will be steaming west.
Wake to the ship at anchor off the rocky outcropping of East Anacapa Island. Join your fitness instructor on the sundeck for morning yoga, before heeding the call of the breakfast buffet. After breakfast, join your naturalist guides on an expedition landing craft to go ashore on East Anacapa. The goal is the Anacapa Lighthouse (built 1912) the last major light station to be built on the West Coast. Soak in the views from Inspiration Point or, for a more relaxing option, explore Arch Rock via Zodiac.
Today you’ll explore the hills, canyons and lagoons of Santa Rosa Island. Kick start your morning with a stretch class before breakfast. Weather permitting, go kayaking, hike one of the many trails, or simply relax ashore. Join the naturalists for a more strenuous hike out to the base of the island’s Torrey Pine grove – one of only two naturally occurring groves in the world. End the day with a sunset cocktail party.
Spend the day discovering the colorful history and natural wonders of Catalina Island. Once a haunt of smugglers and gold-diggers, the island was transformed into a resort destination by chewing gum tycoon William Wrigley, Jr. in the 1920s. A Conservancy member will talk to you about their work on the island before we head out on the trail for spectacular views of the coastline and the Catalina backcountry. After lunch, you’ll have a free afternoon in downtown Avalon, the island’s only incorporated city. Take a stroll up Avalon Canyon to visit the Wrigley Memorial & Botanic Garden or visit an architectural gem: the famous Catalina Casino. Scuba-certified? Our team will arrange diving and gear rental for you with a top local operator. Return to the ship for a farewell dinner, and a last evening at sea under the stars.
Awake dockside in the bustling Port of Los Angeles (early risers can catch the action in one of the world’s largest ports). Enjoy a final breakfast on board before disembarking and returning, totally refreshed, to the clang and clamor of contemporary life.
